Nikki Haley Resigned as U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. by End of Year

United Nations: President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley is resigning from the administration at the end of year. Trump announcement came while he was meeting Haley at the Oval Office.

Trump called Haley a ‘‘very special’’ person, adding that she told him six months ago that she might want to take some time off. Trump said that together they had ‘‘solved a lot of problems.’’

This is the latest shake-up in the turbulent Trump administration less than a month before the November midterm elections. Haley’s resignation was a closely guarded secret and came as a surprise to Congressional Republicans involved in foreign policy matters and some key U.S. allies and other U.N. Ambassadors as there was no advance word from Haley or the White House.
