WHO Convoy Crosses into the Gaza Strip with Critical Life Saving Supplies

UNHQ, New York: The World Health Organization (WHO) has delivered a new consignment of lifesaving medical supplies to Gaza, offering a rare moment of relief for a health system on the edge of collapse.

On Thursday, 238 pallets of insulin, cholera kits, infection prevention equipment, and assistive devices entered Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing — one of the few operational routes for humanitarian aid. The convoy was organized by WHO’s emergency response team and transported to the agency’s warehouse in Khan Younis for immediate distribution.

“We are in Kerem Shalom crossing, currently loading IPC equipment, medical supplies and assistive devices that will be brought to the Gaza Strip tonight,” said Dario Bertetto, WHO Health Emergency Officer for the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Once inside Gaza, the supplies were unloaded into WHO’s cold chain storage, destined for hospitals and clinics still functioning amid widespread shortages.

“We just arrived with our medical cargo containing cholera kits, medical supplies, and other items that will be delivered in the next 48 hours to the main health facilities still operating in the Gaza Strip,” Bertetto added.

WHO says more than 2,000 pallets of medical aid are staged and ready for dispatch from logistics hubs in Jordan, Egypt, Dubai, the West Bank, and Jerusalem — part of a global network that can adapt to shifting access and security conditions. In Dubai, there are still $4.5 million worth of supplies waiting to be delivered.

The most recent supply shows how important it is to keep humanitarian routes open into Gaza, where hospitals are running out of supplies, losing power, and facing a higher danger of disease outbreaks.

As WHO keeps sending trucks across the Kerem Shalom crossing, each one carries not just medicine but also hope—a tenuous lifeline for Gaza's most vulnerable people.
