Washington, D.C.: In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, the United States announced today that India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and the commencement of dialogue on a broad range of issues, following escalating cross-border hostilities.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the development in a statement released Friday, crediting high-level engagement over the past 48 hours involving Vice President Vance and himself, alongside senior leadership from both countries. Discussions included Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and both nations’ national security advisors, Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.

“We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace,” Secretary Rubio said.

The ceasefire agreement, brokered by the U.S., aims to halt hostilities that have recently intensified along the Line of Control. Talks between the two nuclear-armed neighbors are expected to take place at a neutral venue, though no location has been formally disclosed.

The diplomatic effort is being hailed as a rare moment of de-escalation in a region fraught with historical tensions, with Washington positioning itself as a central mediator in preventing further conflict.
