UNHQ, New York: The United States Senate has confirmed Tammy Bruce as Deputy U.S. Representative to the United Nations, completing the senior leadership team at the U.S. Mission as President Donald Trump advances his second-term foreign policy agenda at the world body.

Tammy Bruce was sworn in Monday as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, assuming the role of principal deputy to U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz. Her confirmation fills one of the top diplomatic posts at the mission, positioning the United States to press ahead with an “America First” approach and renewed calls for reform at the United Nations.
In a statement, Waltz described Bruce as a “fierce advocate for American interests” and said her arrival signals a turning point for U.S. engagement at the UN. With the leadership team now fully in place, he said, the mission is prepared to pursue accountability, efficiency, and a return to what Washington views as the organization’s core mandate.
Bruce joins a senior cabinet that includes Jennifer Locetta, serving as Alternative Representative for Special Political Affairs; Jeff Bartos, Representative for Management and Reform; and Dan Negrea, Representative to the Economic and Social Council.
Before her confirmation, Bruce served as spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State and as White House Public Delegate to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. She has also led nonprofit organizations focused on women’s advocacy and is a best-selling author and former media commentator.
U.S. officials say Bruce’s background in communications, policy advocacy, and public diplomacy equips her to navigate the political and media dynamics surrounding multilateral diplomacy, particularly as Washington intensifies scrutiny of UN budgets, mandates, and governance structures.
Her confirmation comes as the United States pushes for what it describes as comprehensive reform across the UN system, arguing that effectiveness and transparency must keep pace with the organization’s expanding responsibilities.
