From the Streets to the UN: Youth at the Forefront of the Climate Change Action
United Nations: In more than 4,500 locations in 150 countries, millions of people participated in the Climate Strike on Friday, September 20. New Yorkers answered the call in massive numbers. A crowd of 250,000 marched from Foley Square to Battery Park where dozens of activists, including Greta Thunberg, spoke at the final rally.
“We will make them hear us”, the 16-year old Swede said, addressing the leaders that will join the Climate Summit at the United Nations next week.
On Saturday, September 21, Greta was the guest star at the Youth Climate Summit, along with tens of young entrepreneurs selected from all over the world. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the initiative. While acknowledging the damage done by his generation, he thanked youths for their commitment and encouraged their efforts.
